I've got an original Apple Wireless Mouse that I just put into service when I got my new Mini last month. So far it burns through batteries like candy. No matter what batteries I use, alkaline or rechargeable they only last a week at most. I turn the mouse off at night and then turn it on in the morning when I start work.
Others are reporting that their batteries last 1 to 2 months or longer but for me it's 5 days alkaline and 7 days with Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable. Why am I getting such lousy battery life? Could the mouse be defective? So far it's been a waste of $70. I thought I had it bad with approximately four week battery life in my wireless mouse! They are still going but very low (17%). You may want to NOT turn-off your mouse each night.
I don't and the reason I don't is that I finally did turn off the keyboard and mouse one night after a week of use and they had a very large drop in remaining battery life that night. So I have not done it again. I use iStatPro to watch battery life and other system parameters.
Its a free downloadable widget. Then again, last night the mouse dropped from 50% to 17% in one night.
It hasn't done that except for the one time I turned it off. My mouse just died. When I opened it to replace the battery, I realized that I only had one battery in it and it was an Energizer Lithium.
30 days on one battery. I've only had my system since just before Christmas - so this is not a long-term observation. An update: When I replaced the battery (see above), I used a regular Energizer battery - not an Energizer Lithium. The regular Energizer battery only lasted 16 days. Therefore, the lithium battery lasted almost twice as long. BTW, the Energizer battery package says 'Energizer Max' on the package but the 'Max' is not on the battery itself. Its clear that the lithium batteries are the way to go for the mouse and keyboard. These are the batteries that Apple ships with the iMac and wireless keyboard and mouse.

My mighty mouse first stopped working after 3 months. (The mouse would scroll, but clicking on icons or tool bar wouldn't open anything.) I replaced the batteries with 2 Energizer AAs. One week later, same problem. I replaced the batteries again, but the mouse died again a few minutes later. I discovered that if I removed the batteries and then put them back in again the mouse worked; i.e.
The batteries were not dead, but there was a problem with the connection. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe this is just a defect with the mouse and I have to either live with it or buy a wired mouse? I don't have bad experiences with the NiMH batteries. They last for a while, though certainly not as long as the Lithium ones. The NiMH can give several hundred recharges before they expire so they are the way to go once the original lithium batteries expire.

I think they last at least a month for me. Indeed, even when fresh, the NiMH batteries do not show the full power strength as indicated by the keyboard/mice battery indicator in System Preferences, but that is of no consequence unless one is anal about seeing a full bar.
